The highly anticipated anime adaptation of WITCH WATCH has officially arrived! To celebrate, the show’s official YouTube channel has released a magical opening movie set to YOASOBI’s latest song, “Watch me!”
Fans of the manga will enjoy spotting references to Nico’s spells throughout the opening sequence.
Kenta Shinohara (known for SKET Dance and ASTRA LOST IN SPACE) began serializing WITCH WATCH in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2021. The manga has since released 21 volumes in Japan, with VIZ Media publishing the official English version.
The anime is directed by Hiroshi Ikehata (TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You) at Bilbury Animation Studios, with Masao Kawase serving as Assistant Director. The series composition is handled by Deko Akao (The Case Study of Vanitas), with character designs by Haruko Iizuka (Horimiya) and music by Yukari Hashimoto (A Sign of Affection). The anime was first announced in August 2024.
Crunchyroll is currently streaming the series as part of its spring 2025 season, and describes the anime:
The story follows Morihito Otogi, a high school student from a family of ogres, who leads a peaceful life until his childhood friend, Nico, moves in with him. Nico, a witch-in-training, chooses Morihito to be her familiar. While Nico is excited to reconnect with her old friend and crush, Morihito is tasked with protecting her from a looming calamity. Their lives quickly become a whirlwind of supernatural chaos and awkwardness, as they navigate Nico’s unpredictable magic and the challenges of living together.
