The Rose of Versailles Anime Film Unveils Subtitled Trailer, Netflix Premiere Set for April

A new trailer has been released for The Rose of Versailles, the upcoming 2025 anime film based on Riyoko Ikeda’s classic historical fiction manga. Alongside the trailer, an English-language key visual and a global streaming release date have been announced. The film will debut on Netflix worldwide on April 30.

Directed by Ai Yoshimura, the film is produced by animation studio MAPPA. Tomoko Komparu serves as the screenwriter, while Mariko Oka handles character design. The music is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano and KOHTA YAMAMOTO. Meanwhile, Udon Entertainment publishes the English-language version of the original manga.

Netflix describes the story as centering on Oscar François de Jarjayes, a woman raised as a man by her father, a distinguished general. The narrative follows Marie Antoinette, who arrives from Austria to become queen, as well as Oscar’s childhood friend and loyal servant, André Grandier. It also introduces Hans Axel von Fersen, a charismatic Swedish count. Their fates intertwine in the grandeur of 18th-century Versailles, as they navigate love, duty, and the shifting tides of history.
