The official Twitter/X account and website for the upcoming The Dinner Table Detective TV anime have announced that the real-life mascots of Kunitachi City, Tokyo, will join the anime’s voice cast. This collaboration with the city features the beloved character mascots, Kuninyan and the Yaho Rangers. The anime is set to premiere on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block on April 4, 2025.
The Kunitachi mascots will appear in the following roles:
- Yui Horie as Kuninyan
- Satoshi Nakao as Yaho Ranger Red
- Taichi Takeda as Yaho Ranger Blue
- Kosuke Echigoya as Yaho Ranger Yellow
They join a talented main voice cast, including Kana Hanazawa as Reiko Hosho, Yuki Kaji as Kageyama, and Mamoru Miyano as Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri.
Mitsuyuki Masuhara (Polar Bear Café) directs the anime, with Mariko Kunisawa (Orient) serving as series screenwriter. Izumi Kawata (Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom) is the character designer, with Oreko Tachibana credited as the original character designer. Animation production is handled by Madhouse.
The anime is based on the mystery novel series by Tokuya Higashigawa, first published by Shogakukan in 2010 and concluded in 2012 with three volumes. The series originally began as a serialized work in 2007.
The Dinner Table Detective novels have also inspired a 2011 live-action TV drama, film, stage play, and manga adaptation. The story is set in Kunitachi, Tokyo, where Reiko Hosho, a young heiress and first-time detective, works alongside Inspector Kazamatsuri to solve challenging cases, with the help of Reiko’s blunt-spoken butler, Kageyama.
