Anime distributor AnimEigo, alongside its parent company MediaOCD, has announced the launch of The Anime Business, a new documentary series that explores the rise of anime in North America. The series will feature interviews with prominent figures from the Western anime industry, offering valuable insights into the genre’s growing popularity.
All episodes will be available in English, with Japanese subtitles provided through a special grant from the Kleckner Foundation.
The series is produced and hosted by Justin Sevakis, the CEO of AnimEigo and founder of MediaOCD. Sevakis has a long history in the anime industry, having founded Anime News Network in 1998, co-hosted the ANNCast from 2009-2015, and worked as the first in-house video and subtitle editor at Central Park Media, contributing to titles like Grave of the Fireflies and Project A-ko. He acquired AnimEigo in 2024.
The Anime Business Episode 1 is already available, with Episode 2 coming later this month and Episode 3 set for an April release. Additional episodes and interviews are currently in production.
