Japanese rock band Sakanaction has released a special collaboration music video for “Kaiju,” the opening theme of the anime Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. The video was posted on the band’s official YouTube channel.
“Kaiju” marks the band’s first new song in three years and was released digitally on February 20. It also represents their first anime theme in their 18-year career. The band spent two years developing the song’s concept. The music video, available online for a limited time of three months, compiles the anime’s storyline to date.
Since its release, “Kaiju” has topped Oricon’s daily digital single charts for four consecutive days.
The Orb: On the Movements of the Earth manga, created by Uoto, began serialization in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in 2020 and has released eight volumes in Japan. The anime adaptation premiered on NHK General TV in Japan on October 5, 2024, and is streaming worldwide on Netflix.
Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English version of the manga, describing the series as follows:
Set in fifteenth-century Europe, where heretics are burned at the stake, the story follows Rafal, a brilliant young man destined to study theology. However, Rafal’s belief in Reason leads him to the radical idea that the Earth orbits the Sun, placing him in the crosshairs of the Inquisition.
A decade later, two members of the Watch Guild, Oczy and Gras, discover a hidden chest containing Rafal’s heretical writings. Faced with the choice of selling the dangerous texts, they must decide whether to risk everything for the secrets of the universe or remain safe from the flames.
