Pokémon has revealed the official trailer for its upcoming anime special Dragonite and the Postman (Kairyuu to Yuubinya-san), set to debut on Pokémon Day 2025.
The first trailer for Dragonite and the Postman was released ahead of the anime’s launch on February 27, 2025. Available on Cinema Today’s YouTube channel, the trailer introduces Hana, the main character voiced by Riko Fukumoto, as she embarks on a mission to deliver an unmarked letter. The anime features breathtaking visuals by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name, Suzume, Weathering With You, and more.
The official synopsis for Dragonite and the Postman reads: “Hana’s journey leads her to Rio, a boy who wrote the letter to celebrate his father’s birthday. His father, working alone in Kanto, is far away, and today is already his birthday! Can Hana and Dragonite deliver the letter in time? With stunning visuals showcasing Pokémon in nature, working alongside humans, and flying across breathtaking landscapes, this special is set to captivate fans.”
Hana’s voice actor, Riko Fukumoto, praised the anime’s depiction of Pokémon’s unique characteristics and their interactions with humans. “The scenes where they fly on Dragonite, and the Pokémon from each region, were especially fun to watch,” she said. Fukumoto also expressed her love for the Pokémon games, including Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team.
Dragonite and the Postman will be released on Pokémon Day 2025, joining several exciting new releases, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Concierge Season 2, which received critical acclaim after its Netflix premiere. The anime’s team includes director Taku Kimura, writer Kentaro Nana, chief animation director and character designer Maho Aoki, art director Tasuku Watanabe, and music by Evan Call. Call composed the theme song Kami Hikouki (“Paper Airplane”), featuring vocals by suis from Yorushika, with lyrics by Ameko Kodama.
