GKIDS has secured the global home entertainment rights to Arcane Season 2, following its successful acquisition of the first season. The company has announced plans to release the sequel in various physical formats, including 4K UHD, later this year.
Originally released on Netflix in 2021, Arcane quickly became a hit, praised for its stunning animation, compelling storytelling, and richly developed characters set in the world of League of Legends. Produced by Riot Games and animated by Fortiche Production, the series focuses on the complex relationship between sisters Vi and Jinx as they navigate the divisions between the cities of Piltover and Zaun.
Arcane was widely recognized for its immersive world-building, dynamic character arcs, and emotional storytelling, solidifying its place as one of the most successful video game adaptations to date. With the release of Season 2 on Netflix in November 2024, fans can now look forward to experiencing the sequel in high-quality physical formats, courtesy of GKIDS. The new season delves deeper into the tensions between Zaun and Piltover, introducing new characters and conflicts that further expand the League of Legends universe.
Christian Linke, the series’ co-creator, recently shared that Riot Games is working on several new animated projects exploring different regions of Runeterra, such as Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia. While Arcane may have concluded, there are more animated adaptations set in the League of Legends world on the horizon.
To tease fans, Riot Games and Fortiche recently released a “Welcome to Noxus” 5-minute cinematic, showcasing characters from the Noxus region who had not appeared in the animated series, including Darius, Trundle, Katarina, Elise, LeBlanc, and Vladimir.
GKIDS, which was recently acquired by Toho, is known for distributing critically acclaimed animated films like The Studio Ghibli Collection, Belle, The Colors Within, and DAN DA DAN. The acquisition of Arcane Season 2 further strengthens their catalog, offering fans a chance to experience the visually stunning series in the highest possible quality.
