Shin Samurai-den YAIBA TV Anime Announces Two New Cast Members

The official website for Shin Samurai-den YAIBA has revealed two new cast members for the upcoming TV anime series, which is set to premiere in Japan on April 5, 2025, at 5:30 PM JST. The anime will air before new episodes of Detective Conan.

Isshin Chiba will voice Kagetora, while Kosuke Echigoya will portray Shonosuke. Chiba, known for voicing Kazunobu Chiba in Detective Conan, is featured in a new promotional crossover video between the two characters. Another promo video, showcasing Sayaka Mike and Ran Mouri, was also released recently.

Directed by Takahiro Hasui (Mob Psycho 100 III), the anime’s production team includes Yoshimichi Kameda as character designer and chief animation director, Takeshi Maenami (Brave Bang Bravern) as sub-character designer and main animator, Hirofumi Masuda as special effects director, Yusuke Takeda (from Komada – A Whisky Family) as background art director, Satoshi Hashimoto (Ranking of Kings) as color designer, Toru Fukushi (The Imaginary) as compositing director, Maiko Okada (Ranking of Kings) as animation producer, and music composed by Yutaka Yamada (Vinland Saga) and Yoshiaki Dewa (Hell’s Paradise). WIT Studio is handling animation production.

Gosho Aoyama’s Yaiba manga, originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from September 1988 to December 1993, spans 24 volumes and won the 38th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Children’s category. VIZ Media has licensed the manga in English.

This new anime, supervised by Aoyama, follows Yaiba Kurogane, an aspiring young samurai training to become the best swordsman, inspired by the legendary Miyamoto Musashi. Previous adaptations of the series include a TV anime from 1993-1994, and VIZ Media is also licensing the anime under the tentative title Yaiba: Samurai Legend.
