The popular isekai fantasy light novel series My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s, created by Matsuri Akai and illustrated by Tozai, has been officially announced for a TV anime adaptation. The series is set to premiere in October 2025. The announcement was made on the anime’s official website and social media platforms, which also released a teaser trailer and visual.

To celebrate the announcement, both Tozai and Hiroyuki Aigamo, who illustrate the novel and manga versions, shared special illustrations. The anime will feature two main voice actors: Takeo Otsuka, known for his role as Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries, will voice Akira Oda, a character who gains assassin powers due to his unnoticeable presence. Saku Mizuno, who voices Ryo Yamada in BOCCHI THE ROCK!, will portray Amelia Rosequartz, a girl from a royal elven family.

Takeo Otsuka expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I thought at first that this work might have some pop content, but that was not all. I am sure that if you watch the first episode, you will be excited to see how the story unfolds.” He encouraged both fans of the original work and newcomers to enjoy the series.

Saku Mizuno also shared her excitement about her character. “Amelia is like a cat, and the expression she shows only to Akira is very cute. I’m happy to deliver to you Amelia, who becomes more adorable as the story progresses,” she said. Mizuno praised the script for staying true to the original novel and highlighted the well-crafted battle scenes.

My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s began serialization on the user-generated novel publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou in January 2017. The Japanese publisher Overlap started releasing print editions of the novel with illustrations by Tozai in November 2017. Currently, four volumes are available in Japan.

The manga adaptation illustrated by Hiroyuki Aigamo began serialization on Overlap’s Comic Gardo website in July 2018. The sixth volume is set to release in Japan on February 25, 2025. The entire series has sold over 1.5 million copies across both print and digital formats.

Seven Seas Entertainment, which holds licenses for both the light novel and manga adaptations, describes the story: Akira Oda is often overlooked due to his unassuming nature. However, when his class is transported to a fantasy world, he easily takes on the role of a silent assassin. As he navigates royal secrets and dangerous schemes, Akira must confront powerful enemies—including the king who summoned him to this world—with help from Amelia, an elven spirit medium.

With its intriguing premise and talented cast and crew, anticipation builds for My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s when it debuts in October 2025.
