The official website for Soreike! Anpanman: Chapon no Hero! has announced that actress Yū Aoi will voice the character Chapon in the 36th film of the beloved Anpanman franchise. Aoi is known for her roles in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films and Children of the Sea.
The film follows Chapon, a mysterious boy who falls from the sky with no memory of his origins. After staying with Anpanman, he learns the joy of helping others and dreams of becoming a hero like him. However, when the villain Baikinman appears and reveals Chapon’s secret past, Chapon must decide whether his origins or his dreams define who he is.
Soreike! Anpanman: Chapon no Hero! is set to be released in Japan on June 27, 2025.
The previous film in the series, Soreike! Anpanman: Baikinman to Ehon no Lulun, opened last June and achieved significant success, ranking first in ticket sales while selling 137,000 tickets and earning 170 million yen (approximately US$1.16 million) in its opening weekend. This marked the highest opening weekend for an Anpanman film to date.
The Soreike! Anpanman television anime series began airing in 1988, and new films have been released every summer since 1989. The 2014 film Soreike! Anpanman: Ringo Bōya to Minna no Negai was particularly notable as it was the first film released after the death of creator Takashi Yanase.
With a rich history and a dedicated fan base, the Anpanman franchise continues to capture the hearts of audiences both young and old.
