A new Pokémon anime titled Dragonite and the Mailman will debut on February 27, 2025, coinciding with Pokémon Day. The special episode will be available on Pokémon’s official YouTube channel.
The anime is produced by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind acclaimed films like Your Name., Weathering With You, and Suzume. Directed by Taku Kimura from Studio Lemon, Dragonite and the Mailman will feature a story centered around a “memorable day.”
The plot follows Hana, a young girl who dreams of becoming a mail carrier like Dragonite. When Hana receives an unaddressed letter, she embarks on a journey with her partner Fuecoco to find its sender. She eventually discovers that the sender is a boy named Rio, who wrote the letter to celebrate his father’s birthday. However, his father is working alone in the Kanto region on his special day.
The anime’s theme song, “Paper Airplane”, will be performed by suis from the band Yorushika. The music for the song, along with the anime’s full soundtrack, is composed by Evan Call, known for his work on Violet Evergarden and My Happy Marriage. Call shared his excitement about the project, revealing his long-time love for Pokémon.
“I’ve been a fan since childhood,” Call said. “It was a true honor to contribute to this anime, especially since I had just been playing Pokémon Scarlet last year.”
He went on to explain how the themes of friendship and adventure in the anime deeply resonated with his own musical style.
“Dragonite and the Mailman really captures the essence of Pokémon—helping others and building friendships. I put my heart into this project, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
