The original DigiDestined from Digimon Adventure are making a return in a new anime titled Digimon Adventure: Beyond. To mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise, the anime shares an exciting glimpse of the characters’ new adult designs. Fans are in for a fresh experience, as this project promises to be different from previous celebrations of the series.
Digimon Adventure: Beyond will feature Matt and Tai as adults, offering a glimpse into their lives after the events of Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. This film already portrayed the DigiDestined in older versions than seen in the original series, and now the upcoming anime will take it a step further, showing the characters even older.
What Is Digimon Adventure: Beyond?
Digimon Adventure: Beyond is a special music video project set to debut during Digimon Con 2025 this March. Directed by Hiroyuki Kakudo, who worked on the first two seasons of the Digimon Adventure anime, this new project brings Tai and Matt back together with their partner Digimon, Agumon and Gabumon. While the focus is on these two characters, other original DigiDestined members are expected to make appearances.
Set after Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning (which follows the events of Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna), this project will mark a significant point in the timeline. The anime will feature the characters even older than in the 2020 film, celebrating the milestone anniversary.
What’s Next for Digimon?
Details on the length of Digimon Adventure: Beyond remain unclear, but the project will be part of a larger crowdfunding campaign in Japan. As fans eagerly await the Digimon Con 2025 event this spring, more information will soon be available.
In a recent interview with Crunchyroll, former Digimon producer Hiromi Seki shared insights about the future of the franchise. “We have a new generation of producers coming in and we’ve passed the baton to them,” Seki explained. “The new team will be coming up with fresh ideas for the next chapter of Digimon.”
Seki expressed optimism about the future: “I think Digimon will continue to evolve. The new team will shape what the next generation of Digimon should be, and I hope fans will continue to support the series.” More details about the future of Digimon are expected later this spring.
