A heartwarming connection has emerged between My Hero Academia character Shoto Todoroki and a real-life girl who shares a similar birthmark. The girl, known on TikTok as lastflashqueen, posted a video on January 11, expressing her joy over her Shoto Todoroki plush and revealing that the character’s scar resembled a birthmark she has. This video was shared on the same day as Todoroki’s birthday.
The video quickly gained attention, transcending language and national boundaries. It eventually reached Japan, where My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi and the Japanese voice actor for Shoto, Yuki Kaji, reside.
Kaji shared on his X account that Horikoshi informed him about the video and its touching message. “Horikoshi-sensei told me about a video of a girl who has a scar in the same place as Shoto’s, and I watched it,” Kaji wrote. The voice actor recalled the girl’s adorable smile as she hugged her plush, saying “like me,” and reflected on the impact of the character’s story. He expressed his own thoughts on how Shoto’s past, despite its heaviness, still holds the potential to inspire and heal. “I realized it still has the power to save someone…” Kaji concluded his post with a smile, commenting, “I saw there a way of being the hero only Shoto could do.”
My Hero Academia, created by Kohei Horikoshi, began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014. After a decade-long run, the series concluded in August 2024, with the final volume released in December. The manga has inspired a popular TV anime series, with Season 8 scheduled to wrap up the story in 2025.
