Shochiku announced in a special video that Jel, a member of the popular group Strawberry Prince, will receive an anime film adaptation of his Toi-san comedy short series. The film is set to premiere in Japan in the summer of 2025.
Jel will play a key role in the production, contributing to the planning, scriptwriting, storyboarding, character design, and voice acting. The film is being produced by STPR Records and Dentsu, with Strawberry Prince’s leader, Nanamori, overseeing the planning as executive producer. Shochiku will handle distribution across Japan.
The Toi-san video series began in April 2019 with a post on X (formerly Twitter). Since then, it has grown to include over 1,000 videos, generating more than 10 billion views across YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms. The series has also inspired an official English study book and a novel.
Toi-san centers on Akane Toi, a female high school student who meets her charming classmate Jel on her first day of school.
Strawberry Prince, also known as StPri, previously released their own anime film, Gekijōban SutoPuri Hajimari no Monogatari: Strawberry School Festival!!!!, produced by LIDENFILMS. The film, which featured the group’s members as voice actors, premiered in Japanese theaters on July 19, 2024.
Formed in June 2016, Strawberry Prince is an entertainment idol group under STPR. The group gained popularity with their song covers on platforms like Nico Nico Douga, YouTube, and TikTok. They also share video game streams, entertainment content, and performances using illustrated avatars, with members keeping their real identities hidden except during live performances or meetups.
The current members of Strawberry Prince are Rinu, Root, Colon, Satomi, Jel, and Nanamori. Nanamori serves as the film’s creator, chief production supervisor, and planning producer, while his off-stage persona, Masato Kashiwabara, is credited with the original story.
Strawberry Prince has released multiple studio albums, mini albums, and extended plays, and has inspired a smartphone game, StrawPri With!!. The group also performs theme songs for TV anime series like Yo-kai Gakuen Y: N to no Sogu and Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress, and some members have voiced characters in Yo-kai Gakuen.
