Shōnen anime often centers around a core duo or trio of characters. Winter 2025’s highly anticipated series, Sakamoto Days, opts for the duo approach, focusing on just two main leads. After the first episode, it’s clear this limited focus is working well, with the protagonists already forming a strong partnership.
The two leads, Taro Sakamoto and Shin Asakura, have the potential to become one of Shōnen’s standout duos. Much like Dragon Ball Super’s Goku and Vegeta or Death Note’s Light Yagami and L, these two former hitmen, who are vastly different from each other, create a compelling dynamic. Their contrasting personalities and skills complement one another, each bringing something unique to the series. While both characters have the potential to shine individually, the heart of Sakamoto Days may well lie in the developing relationship between Sakamoto and Asakura.
