Netflix is ringing in the new year with a significant addition to its One Piece anime lineup. Starting February 1, the popular streaming service will release the Dressrosa Arc, a pivotal 100+ episode storyline in the series.
The Dressrosa Arc follows the Straw Hat Pirates as they battle the notorious “Heavenly Yakuza” Donquixote Doflamingo, one of the anime’s most formidable antagonists. Widely regarded as one of One Piece‘s finest arcs, Dressrosa is also the second longest arc in the series, with only the Wano Country Arc surpassing it at 191 episodes. The addition of Dressrosa will increase Netflix’s One Piece episode count from 600 to 728, providing fans with an abundance of new content while awaiting the series’ official return later this year.
Netflix Joins the Ranks of Streaming Services Offering One Piece
Netflix is one of three major platforms to stream One Piece, alongside Crunchyroll and Hulu. While Crunchyroll offers every episode of the series, recent changes to the platform have placed a significant portion of One Piece behind a paywall, available only to premium members. This move, according to IGN, aims to “retain accessibility” while offering the best experience for both free and paid users. For some viewers, Netflix’s regular updates may present a more affordable option to keep up with Monkey D. Luffy’s adventures.
As of January 8, Netflix hosts Seasons 1-22 of One Piece, leaving several arcs yet to be added. Notably, the Marineford, Fishman Island, and Punk Hazard arcs joined the platform in early 2024. Looking ahead to 2025, Crunchyroll will continue moving additional episodes behind its premium paywall, starting with the Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, Zou, and Whole Cake Island arcs (Episodes 575-878) on January 20, and continuing with Reverie, Wano, and Egghead arcs (Episodes 878 onward) on February 17. However, episodes 1-206 will remain free to watch with ads.
A Transitional Period for One Piece
The One Piece anime is currently undergoing a major transitional phase. In October 2024, Toei Animation announced a six-month production hiatus to address ongoing issues with animation quality and pacing. As a temporary solution, Toei has been airing a remastered version of the Fishman Island Arc, condensing it into 21 episodes with newly reanimated sequences. The final remastered episode is set to air in March 2025, just before the continuation of the Egghead Arc in April.
Fans can continue to enjoy One Piece across Hulu, Netflix, and Crunchyroll, while the original manga by Eiichiro Oda is available in English through VIZ Media.
