WIT STUDIO is set to bring a new stop-motion animated series, My Melody & Kuromi, to Netflix this July, marking a significant milestone for the studio’s growing expertise in stop-motion animation. Produced by TORUKU, a division of WIT STUDIO, the series will feature beloved Sanrio characters My Melody and Kuromi, who are celebrating their respective anniversaries—50 years for My Melody and 20 years for Kuromi.
The series is helmed by Tomoki Misato, known for his work on the stop-motion anime Pui Pui Molcar, while Shuko Nemoto will write the scripts. A brief teaser offering fans a glimpse of the iconic characters has already been released, piquing interest for the upcoming series.
Misato’s involvement in the project follows his successful direction of WIT STUDIO’s Candy Caries, a stop-motion anime promotional video (PV) released in early 2021. The success of Candy Caries also coincided with the official launch of a stop-motion studio under WIT STUDIO, which has been building its expertise in this unique animation style since December 2020.
As the series prepares for its debut, My Melody & Kuromi promises to be a significant addition to the world of stop-motion anime, showcasing the charm of Sanrio’s iconic characters in a fresh and creative format.
