Whisper Me a Love Song Anime’s Blu-ray Disc Release Canceled in Japan

by Hazel

The official website for Whisper Me a Love Song (Sasayaku yō ni Koi wo Utau), the anime adaptation of Eku Takeshima’s manga, announced on Tuesday that the planned Blu-ray Disc release in Japan has been canceled due to “internal circumstances.” The release had been initially slated to begin on January 31 but has now been officially called off.

Originally, four Blu-ray volumes were scheduled for release, with delays announced in August due to “production circumstances.” The first volume, which was to be released on September 13, had already been rescheduled to January 31. The second, third, and fourth volumes were delayed to February 28, March 28, and April 30, respectively.

A further development emerged in late October when it was confirmed that the domain name for the anime’s production studio, Cloud Hearts, had expired, causing the studio’s website to become inaccessible. The situation raised additional concerns regarding the anime’s production and future releases.

The anime, which premiered on April 13 as part of TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation programming block, also experienced delays during its initial airing. Episodes 9 and 10 were pushed back by two weeks in June due to production issues. The final episodes, 11 and 12, aired on December 28, 2024, effectively making the air date December 29 at 1:45 AM.

Based on the manga by Eku Takeshima, Whisper Me a Love Song tells the story of Himari, a bubbly high school student who falls in love with her senpai, Yori, after hearing her perform in a band. However, the two girls begin to realize that their feelings of love are not aligned, leading Himari to question what love truly means.

The anime underwent significant production changes, including the replacement of episode director Xin Ya Cai (known for Arte) with Akira Mano, who is known for Ghost Hunt. While Cloud Hearts and Yokohama Animation Lab were both involved in producing the animation, the production process was later streamlined under the oversight of Yokohama Animation Lab.

Whisper Me a Love Song was originally set to showcase the talents of a wide range of industry professionals, including script supervisor Hiroki Uchida (Requiem of the Rose King) and character designer Minami Yoshida (Mysteria Friends), with music composed by Hiroshi Sasaki and Wataru Maeguchi.

Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the original manga digitally and in print in English, with the first volume introducing the dynamic between Himari and Yori.

At this time, it remains unclear whether the anime will receive a new Blu-ray release schedule in the future. Fans of the series continue to await further updates from the production team.
