Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine announced in its February issue that artist Yoshinori Kisaragi, best known for Your Forma, will helm the manga adaptation of Kōko Shirakawa’s novel series Wuyi no Hana (Flowers of Wuyi). The adaptation is set to debut in Young Ace later this year, with original character designs credited to the series’ illustrator, Taku Haruno.
The Wuyi no Hana series follows the adventures of an eccentric yet brilliant shaman and her fiancé as they unravel mysteries in a Chinese-inspired fantasy world. Shirakawa previously confirmed that the series shares its setting with two of her earlier works: Raven of the Inner Palace (Kōkyū no Karasu) and Wadatsumi no Musume (Daughter of the Water God). Despite being published by different companies—Shueisha and Kodansha, respectively—each novel explores unique themes: Raven of the Inner Palace delves into dark fantasy, Wadatsumi no Musume is a historical epic, and Wuyi no Hana focuses on coming-of-age storytelling.
The first volume of Wuyi no Hana was released by Kadokawa on April 25, 2024, with the second installment scheduled for release on January 24, 2025.
Fans of Shirakawa’s work may be familiar with Raven of the Inner Palace, which is available in English through Seven Seas Entertainment. The series also inspired a television anime adaptation in 2022.
Yoshinori Kisaragi, who will bring Wuyi no Hana to life as a manga, is no stranger to literary adaptations. Kisaragi previously worked on the Your Forma manga, which ran in Young Ace from June 2021 to September 2023. Kadokawa compiled the series into several volumes, and Yen Press publishes the English version.
As anticipation builds, fans of Kōko Shirakawa’s expansive literary universe and Kisaragi’s artistic talent can look forward to seeing Wuyi no Hana come to life in a new medium later this year.
