Kadokawa has unveiled the clean opening animation sequence for the second season of My Happy Marriage (Japanese: Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon), an anime based on the popular light novel series by Akumi Agitogi and Tsukiho Tsukioka. The video, which excludes credits, was released on Friday, featuring the opening theme song, “Shiawase no Yakusoku” (A Happy Promise) by Riria.
Season Premiere and Streaming Details
The second season of My Happy Marriage is set to premiere on January 6, 2025. The first episode will air on Tokyo MX, BS11, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, and TV Aichi. AT-X will begin broadcasting the season a day later, on January 7. International audiences will be able to stream the series on Netflix and other platforms, with the premiere timed for 10:30 p.m. JST (8:30 a.m. EST), aligning with the broadcast schedule.
The anime’s main cast participated in a streamed New Year’s special on January 1, providing fans with a sneak peek at the upcoming season.

A new addition to the cast is Haruka Tomatsu, who will voice Kaoruko Jinnouchi.
Production Team Changes and Returning Creators
The production team for the second season sees some changes and familiar faces. Masayuki Kojima, who worked as a storyboarder and episode director during the first season, joins returning director Takehiro Kubota at studio Kinema Citrus. The script is now solely overseen by Ami Satō, who previously shared this role with Momoka Toyoda and Takahito Ōnishi in the first season. Satō, along with Misato Hashiba, Fūka Ishii, and Momoka Toyoda, co-writes the scripts for the new season.
Shōko Yasuda returns as the character designer, with Kuniyuki Itō joining as the sub-character designer. Emi Katanosaka is back as art director, with Osamu Masuyama continuing as art advisor. Editing is handled by Masayuki Kurosawa, while Takahiro Ikeda supervises the music. The soundtrack is being produced by MIRACLE BUS in collaboration with Kinema Citrus and Kadokawa.
The second season’s ending theme song, “Tsukikage Okuri” (Moonlight Sending), is performed by Kashitarō Itō.
Overview of the Series and Previous Releases
The anime’s first season, which premiered in July 2023, consisted of 12 episodes. My Happy Marriage was also available for international streaming via Netflix from its release. An original anime OVA titled Shiawase no Katachi (The Shape of Happiness) was bundled with the eighth volume of the light novel series, set to release on March 15, 2024. The OVA will also stream globally on Netflix starting November 22, 2024, coinciding with Japan’s “Good Couple Day.”
The My Happy Marriage light novel series, launched in January 2019, is licensed in English by Yen Press. The story centers on Miyo, a young woman from a noble family who is raised by her abusive stepmother. She is married off to Kiyoka, a distant and cold soldier, whose previous fiancées fled within days. Over time, Miyo begins to open her heart to Kiyoka, and what initially seems like a loveless marriage may become her path to true happiness.
The manga adaptation, illustrated by Rito Kohsaka, began serialization in December 2018 on Square Enix’s Gangan Online website. Square Enix Manga & Books is publishing the manga in English.
A live-action film adaptation of My Happy Marriage premiered in Japan in March 2023. The film enjoyed strong box office success, ranking at #1 in its opening weekend and earning ¥654 million (approximately US$4.97 million) from 479,700 tickets sold in its first three days.
