GONZO, a renowned Japanese animation studio, has announced exciting news for anime fans in its New Year’s message. The company revealed that it is currently developing two new TV anime series, which are set to premiere within the next two years, in 2025 and 2026.

In the message, CEO Shinichiro Ishikawa expressed the studio’s anticipation for the upcoming projects: “We are currently in the midst of developing two new TV series, set to premiere within this year and next!” He also encouraged fans to stay tuned for more details, adding, “Look forward to our upcoming announcements.”

This announcement marks a significant milestone for GONZO, whose TV anime production has slowed since 2019. The studio’s most recent major contribution was the 2020 second season of 7SEEDS, which was co-produced with Studio KAI. While GONZO’s output has dwindled, it has remained active in other projects. In 2021, the company ventured into the NFT space with the SAMURAI Cryptos project, which CEO Ishikawa described as ushering in “a new era of anime.” As of 2024, this project is still ongoing.

GONZO’s commitment to innovation continued with its collaboration announced in October 2024 with N LITE, a company focusing on “afro-anime,” and Peter Ramsey, co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The partnership aims to produce a live-action and anime hybrid feature as well as an anime series.

Founded in 1992, GONZO has produced several iconic anime over the years, including Blue Submarine No.6, Fullmetal Panic!, Kaleido Star, Last Exile, GANTZ, and Samurai7. In the 2010s, the studio expanded its portfolio with titles such as A Town Where You Live, Blade & Soul, Akiba’s Trip The Animation, and Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode Oracle.

Looking ahead, GONZO has also confirmed the return of Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits, with a second season scheduled for release in the Fall 2025 anime season. However, the studio responsible for the animation production of the new season has not been disclosed.

Anime fans and industry observers alike are eager to see what GONZO’s new projects will bring in the coming years, especially with the studio’s continued efforts to diversify and push creative boundaries in the world of anime.
