A new key visual for the ongoing short anime series Tono to Inu has been revealed, showcasing the main characters of the series. The anime, which premiered on October 10, 2024, is notable for airing in four different versions, each with a different voice actor for the protagonist, Tono.
The newly released visual highlights the distinct characters that have become central to the series’ narrative, while the official YouTube channel for Tono to Inu also lists the series under the English title The Corgi and the Samurai.

Production Team and Background
Directed by Haruki Kasugamori, known for his work on Astro Note and Dragon Goes House-Hunting, Tono to Inu is produced by OLM and Live2D Creative Studio. The anime features music by Shun Miyazaki and sound direction by Noriyoshi Konuma, who previously worked on The Dangers in My Heart.
The original manga, written and illustrated by Rie Nishida, was first published as a short series on Flex Comix’s Comic Polaris website on March 18, 2021. The manga was subsequently serialized starting on October 14, 2021, and as of October 2024, four tankobon volumes have been released.
Plot Overview
Tono to Inu follows Tono, a former Sengoku-era warrior who has fallen on hard times after his days of glory. One day, Tono encounters a stray dog and decides to adopt the animal, marking the beginning of his transition to a quieter, more peaceful life. The heartwarming historical comedy explores Tono’s relationship with the dog as he navigates life post-war.
