Shiwasu Hoshikawa, renowned manga artist and creator, is set to debut a new manga adaptation of Bungō Stray Dogs: Storm Bringer, the eighth light novel in Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa’s acclaimed Bungō Stray Dogs series. The announcement was made in the February 2025 issue of Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine, with the manga scheduled to launch in the publication’s next issue on January 24.
Story Overview
The Storm Bringer manga is set in the aftermath of the “Arahabaki Incident” and takes place a year after Chuuya Nakahara joins the Port Mafia. The story introduces Adam, a European detective tasked with protecting Chuuya from Paul Verlaine, an enigmatic figure known as the “king of assassins.” Paul, who claims to be Chuuya’s brother, embarks on a deadly mission to eliminate everyone Chuuya holds dear.
Hoshikawa’s Previous Works
Hoshikawa recently concluded the Bungō Stray Dogs: Dazai, Chuuya, Age Fifteen manga, which ended with its fourth and final compiled volume released on October 4, 2024. This series, launched in Shōnen Ace in September 2022, adapted the seventh light novel of the same title, exploring the backstory of fan-favorite characters Osamu Dazai and Chuuya Nakahara. Yen Press is currently publishing the series in English.
Additionally, Hoshikawa worked on Bungō Stray Dogs: Beast, a spinoff manga based on Asagiri’s light novel. This series ran in Monthly Shōnen Ace from December 2019 to January 2022, concluding with its fourth and final volume in February 2022.
About the Original Series
Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa first launched the Bungō Stray Dogs manga in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine in December 2012. The series continues to run successfully, with Yen Press publishing both the manga and light novels in English.
Anime Adaptations
The Bungō Stray Dogs series has seen multiple anime adaptations, beginning with its first season in April 2016, which aired through June of that year. The second season followed in late 2016, with subsequent seasons released in April 2019, January 2023, and July 2023. The latest, the fifth season, concluded in September 2023. Crunchyroll streamed all seasons as they aired, with Funimation providing English-dubbed home video releases.
The franchise also includes the feature film Bungō Stray Dogs: Dead Apple, which premiered in Japan in March 2018. The movie was later made available on streaming platforms, with Crunchyroll adding it to its library in September 2018 and Funimation following in June 2019.
