The Pokémon franchise is set to introduce a fresh, exciting chapter in its animated universe with the debut of Monpoké, a new series aimed at young audiences. Scheduled for release in February 2025, the show will feature beloved Pokémon characters such as Pikachu, Piplup, and Ludicolo, but with a twist: these Pokémon will be presented in adorable chibi form.
Monpoké is designed as an entertainment brand for babies and young children, with a central theme focused on kindness and friendship. The series, which will consist of 10 episodes, follows Pikachu as it embarks on a journey to Monpoké Island, a serene location characterized by lush forests, vibrant flower fields, and crystal-clear rivers. As Pikachu explores this picturesque island, it meets new Pokémon friends and experiences a series of light-hearted adventures.
In line with its audience, the series will feature a laid-back, charming atmosphere reminiscent of the Pokémon franchise’s first stop-motion animated series, Pokémon Concierge. Unlike previous Pokémon installments, which prominently feature both human and Pokémon characters, Monpoké focuses solely on the Pokémon, shifting away from the usual battle-oriented plots. Fans will instead enjoy peaceful, fun-filled stories that emphasize exploration and friendship rather than competitive Pokémon training.
To celebrate the launch of Monpoké, Pokémon has released a catchy promotional music video, complete with the theme song, “Nice to meet you; let’s collect you.” The video showcases the playful and welcoming tone of the show, which can be viewed on various Pokémon platforms.
The Monpoké anime is being produced by Fanworks, the animation studio behind the popular Aggretsuko series on Netflix. Reiko Yoshida, known for her work on Pokémon Journeys, is serving as the series’ composer. Yoshida has a long history in anime, having contributed to several notable films, including The Colors Within.
Episodes 1 and 2 of Monpoké will premiere on Pokémon’s official YouTube channel on February 19, 2025, with subsequent episodes released weekly. The series promises to be a charming addition to the expansive Pokémon franchise.
A Year of Pokémon Surprises
2025 is shaping up to be a significant year for Pokémon fans. Alongside Monpoké, the franchise is also preparing for the second season of Pokémon Horizons. This new season will continue the adventures of trainers Liko and Roy as they uncover secrets about a mythical land known as “L’Acqua” and seek out special Pokémon connected to a mysterious legend.
Pokémon Horizons Season 2 is set to premiere on February 7, 2025. Meanwhile, Pokémon Horizons Season 1 is already available on Netflix, with Parts 1-4 streaming now. Additionally, the Pokémon TV YouTube Channel is offering episodes of the iconic Pokémon: Indigo League, available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and German.
With its expanding reach across various media, including video games, trading cards, manga, and live-action films, Pokémon continues to captivate a global audience. Fans can look forward to a variety of new experiences in 2025, making it an exciting year for the franchise.
