Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has unveiled plans for its fifth stage play, which will adapt the popular Swordsmith Village Arc. The play is set to premiere in April 2025 in Tokyo and Hyogo, and will feature an impressive returning cast, including Shogo Sakamoto as Tanjiro Kamado, Karen Takahashi as Nezuko Kamado, and Yoshihide Sasaki as Muzan Kibutsuji.
The new production will be helmed by Tsuneyasu Motoyoshi, who takes over the director’s role from Kenichi Suemitsu. Shunsuke Wada will once again compose the music for the stage adaptation, continuing his involvement from previous productions.
The stage play will focus on the Swordsmith Village Arc from the Demon Slayer manga, which was also adapted into the 2023 anime season. The arc was previously introduced in theaters with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village, a special movie that combined the final two episodes of the previous season with the first episode of the Swordsmith Village Arc. The full season aired in 2023, running for 11 episodes, concluding with a one-hour finale.
Demon Slayer is a manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge, originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020. The anime adaptation, produced by studio ufotable, continues to enjoy immense success, with a trilogy of films based on the Infinity Castle arc currently in production.
The Swordsmith Village Arc begins with Volume 10 of the manga. In this part of the story, VIZ Media describes the plot as follows:
“For the first time in over 100 years, the upper ranks of Muzan Kibutsuji’s Twelve Kizuki are not full. Angered, Muzan dispatches the survivors on another mission. Elsewhere, Tanjiro journeys to a village of swordsmiths and must explain the condition of his damaged sword to Haganezuka, the blacksmith who forged it. While Tanjiro waits for his sword to be repaired, enemies close in…”
The stage play promises to bring this intense and action-packed arc to life on stage, with fans eager to see how the story will be adapted for the live theater experience.
