The much-anticipated anime adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm’s third part, Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, is officially slated for release in 2026. The announcement was made just days ahead of the release of the series’ third short story anthology, set to launch on December 10, 2024.
Produced by WIT Studio, the new adaptation will continue the tale of the beloved bookworm-turned-librarian, as she navigates the challenges of noble society. The announcement, which was first revealed in December 2023, was accompanied by a celebratory tweet from the official TO Books Twitter account, marking the upcoming release with a teaser for the anime’s debut.
The Ascendance of a Bookworm franchise began as a web novel in 2013 before being published as a light novel under the TO Books label starting in 2015. Written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina, the series quickly gained popularity for its unique blend of fantasy and literary passion.
Crunchyroll provides a brief summary of the first season of the anime, which follows the story of Motosu Urano, a college student who dies unexpectedly just as she was about to fulfill her dream of becoming a librarian. Reborn as a young girl named Main in the town of Ehrenfest, Urano (now Main) faces a harsh class system and a scarcity of books. Determined to continue her love for literature, she resolves to create her own books in a world where they are reserved for the nobility.
The third part of the series, Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, follows Myne, now known as Rozemyne, as she navigates her new life as the adopted daughter of an archduke in Ehrenfest. Her rise in noble society brings with it new responsibilities and challenges, including rigorous etiquette and magic training. Despite these hardships, Rozemyne’s unwavering passion for books leads her to the temple’s book room, where she seeks out rare literary treasures. This part of the story continues the series’ exploration of the growing printing industry and the expansion of its intricate world.
As of December 2023, Ascendance of a Bookworm boasts 33 main volumes, with manga adaptations covering the first four parts. The series has also spawned three seasons of anime, with the first season airing in 2019, produced by Ajia-do Animation Works.
With its captivating mix of fantasy, literature, and the challenges of personal growth, the upcoming Adopted Daughter of an Archduke anime adaptation is eagerly anticipated by fans of the series worldwide.
