The staff behind Grisaia: Phantom Trigger the Animation, the upcoming television adaptation of Frontwing’s Grisaia: Phantom Trigger game, revealed exciting new details about the anime on December 2. A creditless version of the anime’s opening theme was released, unveiling the opening song “Zero Ignition,” performed by Mao Uesugi, as well as the ending theme “Dandelion,” sung by Yoshino Nanjō.
Set to premiere on January 1, 2024, the anime will air on Tokyo MX and BS NTV channels at 25:00 JST (effectively January 2 at 1:00 a.m. JST). Subsequent episodes will air at midnight JST starting with the second episode. Additionally, the series will be available on Sun TV on January 5, and on TV Aichi, Hokkaido TV Broadcasting, and Shizuoka Broadcasting starting January 7.
The anime was originally slated for a 2023 release but was delayed to January 2024. It will feature many of the voice actors from the 2019 original video anime (OVA), including Maaya Uchida as Rena, Ayane Sakura as Tohka, Kaori Nazuka as Christina, and Atsumi Tanezaki as Murasaki.
Key Production Details and Staff
Directed by Kōsuke Murayama, the anime will be produced by Bibury Animation Studio, the same studio that handled the OVA and its sequels. Akio Watanabe, who worked as the character designer and chief animation director on previous adaptations, will reprise his role. The musical composition will be handled by Hitoshi Fujima, Yūsuke Takeda, and Fuminori Matsumoto, with Frontwing and WOWMAX co-producing the project.
The Grisaia: Phantom Trigger OVA adaptation of the game premiered in Japan in March 2019. A subsequent English dub was released by Frontwing. Notably, the anime’s production was largely self-funded by Frontwing, with no external production committee involved.
About the Grisaia Franchise
The Grisaia series, known for its visual novels, anime, and manga adaptations, continues to expand with the release of Grisaia: Phantom Trigger. The game series’ eighth and final volume launched for PC in February 2022. Earlier volumes of the game were made available through Steam, with the first two volumes of Grisaia: Phantom Trigger being released in English in April 2017.
Frontwing’s The Fruit of Grisaia was originally released on Steam in 2015, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, and the studio has since released other titles in the series, including The Labyrinth of Grisaia and The Eden of Grisaia. Each game has inspired various adaptations, contributing to the widespread popularity of the franchise.
