Plot Overview

The anime is based on Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter, a light novel series written by Riku Nanano. The story follows Allen, a promising young sorcerer who fails his final exam for a coveted position at the royal court. With few options left and no money to travel back to his rural hometown, Allen is forced to take on a new job. His employer, Duke Howard, one of the most powerful nobles in the kingdom, requires a private tutor for his daughter, Tina.

Despite Tina’s academic brilliance, she is unable to cast a single spell. With entrance exams for the prestigious Royal Academy approaching, magical aptitude is a critical requirement, and Tina’s magical impairment remains unsolved, even by the kingdom’s top sorcerers. The question remains: can Allen use his unique brand of magic to help Tina, and does her father, the duke, truly want his help?

A Long-Running Success

Nanano originally serialized the story on the Kakuyomu website in October 2017. The novel series was later picked up for print by Kadokawa, which began releasing the books in December 2018. The 17th volume was released on July 20, 2024. A manga adaptation by Tamura Mutō began serialization in Shōnen Ace Plus in September 2019, with the fourth volume released in February 2024.

J-Novel Club is currently releasing the English translation of the novel series. Fans can look forward to more updates as the anime’s premiere date approaches in 2025.
