The story of Shabake is set during the Edo period in Japan and follows Ichitaro, the heir to Nagasakiya, one of the largest commercial stores in Nihonbashi. Born with a fragile health condition that prevents him from venturing outside, Ichitaro is deeply connected to the spirit world. His companions include Sasuke, an inugami, and Jinkichi, a hakutaku—both spirits who protect and accompany him.

The story takes a dramatic turn when Ichitaro sneaks out one night and witnesses a murder, setting him on a quest to uncover the identity of the perpetrator, aided by his loyal spirit companions.

Fans of the original novel can look forward to the anime’s 2025 release, with further details expected in the coming months.
