The official website for Gekijouban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyou no Gunshi (“Nintama Rantaro the Movie: The Strongest Strategist of the Dokutake Ninja Squad”) has unveiled a new visual ahead of the film’s release. The image features Hansuke Doi, a first-year Ha-class teacher, and Tenki, a military commander of the Dokutake ninja squad, both of whom share a striking resemblance. The visual uses a black-and-white contrast, symbolizing the dichotomy of light and darkness, with the characters standing back-to-back.
In addition to the visual reveal, it was confirmed that Toshihiko Seki, who voices Hansuke Doi in the series, will also voice Tenki in the upcoming film. Fans can also look forward to a newly drawn illustration created for limited edition merchandise related to the movie.
The film is based on Nintama Rantaro, a slapstick comedy manga series written by Sobe Amako. The story follows a group of ninja trainees at a ninjutsu academy who aim to become first-class ninjas. Originally serialized in Asahi Shogakusei Shimbun from April 1986 to October 2019, the manga was adapted into a TV anime that began airing in 1993. The series is currently in its 32nd season, airing daily on NHK E-television.
This upcoming film marks the first Nintama Rantaro feature in 13 years, following Ninjutsu Gakuen Zenin Shutsudou no Dan (“Ninjutsu Academy: All Hands on Deck! Chapter”) in 2011. The new film is based on a spin-off novel by Kazuhisa Sakaguchi, first published in 2013.
The plot begins when Doi-sensei goes missing after accepting a challenge from the tasogaredoki ninja Moroizumi Sonnamon. As the Ninjutsu Academy students search for him, a mysterious man dressed in white appears, setting the stage for the unfolding events.
Gekijouban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyou no Gunshi will hit theaters in Japan on December 20, 2024.
