Anime fans in the Philippines have an exciting new film to look forward to this month, as ODEX Philippines has confirmed that CloverWorks’ idol anime film Trapezium will be hitting cinemas. The film will be screened exclusively in SM Cinemas, with a likely limited run of around one week.
Though Trapezium may not be familiar to many, particularly due to its original nature and lack of a well-known manga or franchise backing, it is set to appeal to anime fans due to its connection to CloverWorks—the renowned studio behind popular titles such as My Dress-Up Darling, Bocchi the Rock, and Spy x Family (in collaboration with Wit Studio).
The film is based on the novel Trapezium by Kazumi Takayama, a former member of the Japanese idol group Nogizaka46, who wrote the book while still a member of the group.
The story follows Yu Azuma, an ambitious first-year student at Joshu East High School with dreams of forming a successful idol group. In her pursuit of stardom, she recruits girls from four high schools across her region, representing the north, east, south, and west. The girls include Ranko Katori, a second-year student at Holy Teneritas Southern Girls’ Academy with a passion for Ochofujin (“Madame Butterfly”); Kurumi Taiga, a student at West Tech Vocational High School who dreams of winning a robotics competition; and Mika Kamei, a kind-hearted volunteer from Joshu North High School.
Yu’s efforts are supported by Shinji Kudo, her trusted collaborator and confidante. Together, the five of them embark on a journey that brings the excitement of aspiring idols but also the challenges of overcoming trials, setbacks, and the harsh realities of the entertainment industry.
The film features a talented voice cast, including:
- Asaki Yuikawa as Yu Azuma
- Haruka Aikawa as Mika Kamei
- Hina Kino as Sachi Mizuno
- Hina Yomiya as Kurumi Taiga
- Reina Ueda as Ranko Katori
- Shoya Kimata as Shinji Kudo
- Teruyoshi Uchimura as Hidekazu Itami
- Yurika Kubo as Moeka Koga
With its unique premise and the backing of CloverWorks, Trapezium promises to be an intriguing addition to the anime film landscape.
