Make A Girl is inspired by Yasuda’s earlier short film, Make Love, which utilized Blender for its animation. The film successfully concluded a crowdfunding campaign that raised over 23 million yen (approximately $159,000) from August to October 2022, exceeding its initial target of 10 million yen. A subsequent campaign held from September to October 2023 further secured additional funding of over 23 million yen (about $151,000) to enhance the film’s quality and completion.

The synopsis provided by Kadokawa describes the film as follows:

Set in the near future, the story follows Akira Mizutamari, a scientific prodigy who creates SALT, a revolutionary robot designed to improve everyday life. However, after experiencing a series of failures with his new inventions, Akira learns from a friend that he can “power up” by creating a girlfriend. In response, he scientifically constructs an “artificial” girlfriend named No. Zero. As No. Zero grapples with her programmed emotions and burgeoning feelings for Akira, a question arises: Is what they share truly love, or something entirely different?

With its unique premise and a talented team, Make A Girl promises to be a standout feature in the anime film landscape.
