Fans of the acclaimed South Korean web novel Solo Leveling can look forward to the release of the highly anticipated movie, Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, set to premiere on streaming platforms on November 29, 2024. This film will compile the episodes from the first season of the anime adaptation, along with two new episodes that will provide a sneak peek into the upcoming second season, scheduled for release in January 2025.
Originally written by Chugong, Solo Leveling debuted on July 25, 2016, and was published by D&C Media under the Papyrus label on November 4, 2016. Following its success, a webtoon adaptation illustrated by Jang Sung-rak (also known as Dubu) began serialization on KakaoPage on March 4, 2018. The first season of the webtoon concluded on March 19, 2020, and a second season ran from August 2020 to December 2021. By June 2024, the series’ chapters had been collected into 11 volumes.
The plot of Solo Leveling revolves around hunters—individuals endowed with supernatural abilities who battle fearsome monsters for survival. The story centers on Sung Jinwoo, a hunter notorious for his weakness and struggling for survival in a perilous world. However, his fortunes change when he narrowly escapes a treacherous double dungeon that decimates his party. Following this harrowing experience, he is selected by a mysterious program called the System, granting him the extraordinary ability to level up his strength—something no other hunter can do.
As he gains power, Sung Jinwoo rises to become the Shadow Monarch, an immortal necromancer commanding absolute authority over the dead. Yet, despite his formidable abilities, he finds himself in conflict with other monarchs, as he is the only necromancer fighting to protect humanity.
