In an exciting development for fans of magical girl anime, the reboot of Hana no Ko Lunlun—now titled Hua Xianzi: Zhi Mofa Xiang Dui Lun (roughly translating to Flower Angels: On the Fragrance of Magic Flowers)—has officially released its first trailer. This new series, a collaboration between Toei Animation’s Chinese division and Tencent Video, showcases a fresh narrative and introduces new characters.
The full trailer, available on Toei Animation’s official YouTube channel, features Japanese subtitles, providing an early glimpse into the reboot’s unique storyline.
The original Hana no Ko Lunlun anime, produced by Toei Animation, aired for fifty episodes beginning in February 1979. It followed Lunlun, a magical Flower Girl, on her quest to find the Rainbow Flower, highlighting her adventures and romantic experiences along the way.
For the reboot, animation production is led by Wawayu Animation, known for their work on Cinderella Chef. The narrative centers on Rumi, a young girl training at a handmade perfume studio. Her journey takes a magical turn when she is confronted by a dark fog while returning home. A black cat, claiming to be an emissary from the planet Flowernu, appears and helps Rumi unlock the power of the Flower Key, a legacy from her ancestor, transforming her into a Flower Child.
To protect the City of Flowers, Rumi embarks on a mission to collect and purify the petals of the Rainbow Flower, which have been tainted by dark magic and scattered throughout the city. Utilizing the enchanting powers of flower aromas, she aims to dispel the darkness that has infiltrated the hearts of the city’s inhabitants while growing into her role as a magical girl.
As her adventure unfolds, Rumi faces a new threat from a mysterious Flower Child, leading her to uncover the true identity of her feline companion.
Fans eagerly await further details on this fresh interpretation of a classic series, hoping to see how the reboot honors its predecessor while introducing innovative elements.
