The popular manga Battle in 5 Seconds After Meeting (Deatte 5-byō de Battle) is going on an indefinite hiatus, according to an announcement from artist Miyakokasiwa on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday web comic service. The creator cited ongoing health and personal issues as the reason behind the break, which have persisted since early this year. Additionally, Miyakokasiwa noted that the series is nearing its conclusion.
The manga is a remake of Saizō Harawata’s original work and first debuted in 2015. The English-language version is published by Comikey, which offers the following description of the story:
The plot centers around Akira Shiroyanagi, a high school student with a love for strategy games and Konpeito candy. On his way to school, Akira crosses paths with a mysterious woman named Mion. Shortly after, he and several others are abducted and forced to participate in dangerous trials for a shadowy organization. Gifted with unique abilities, the participants must battle each other in a high-stakes survival game.
Akira, now armed with his special powers, sets his sights on defeating the organization responsible for their ordeal. Relying on his intellect and wits, he navigates the challenges in a gripping, strategic battle for survival.
Battle in 5 Seconds originally started as an online manga by Harawata before Miyakokasiwa’s illustrated remake launched on Ura Sunday in 2015. It is also available on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app.
The series gained further popularity with its anime adaptation in 2021, which was dubbed into English by Crunchyroll.
There is currently no official word on when the manga will resume. Fans of the series are encouraged to stay tuned for updates regarding Miyakokasiwa’s recovery and the eventual return of Battle in 5 Seconds.
