The Summer 2024 anime lineup saw a surprising success with The Elusive Samurai, captivating audiences with its stunning visual artistry. Following the conclusion of its inaugural season, a second season has been officially announced.
Details about the upcoming season remain scarce. The announcement was made through a beautifully crafted calligraphy piece by renowned calligrapher Kamari Maeda. Currently, there is no information regarding the release date or casting changes for the sequel.
Based on Yusei Matsui’s historical fiction manga of the same name, The Elusive Samurai was brought to life by CloverWorks, with its first season airing from July 6 to September 28, 2024. The series features the musical composition of Toriko Tomita and character designs by Yasushi Nishiya.
The opening theme song, “Plan A,” was performed by DISH//, while the ending theme, “Kamakura STYLE,” was crafted by Botchi Boromaru. The manga is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and is available digitally in English through Viz Media and MANGA Plus.
The first volume of the series introduces the gripping narrative:
“After the massacre of his family by the traitor Ashikaga Takauji, Tokiyuki flees with the help of a handful of loyal retainers who have also survived the purge. Among them is Suwa Yorishige, an ally of the Hojo clan and lord of Suwa Province. The slightly eccentric Yorishige claims to possess clairvoyance, foretelling that Tokiyuki will one day become the ruler of Japan. However, for now, escaping from enemy territory is the immediate concern.”
