In an exciting development for fans of the beloved comedy manga Grand Blue Dreaming, the staff and cast have confirmed that production on a second season of the television anime has been officially green-lit. This announcement was made on Sunday, marking a significant moment for the series based on Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka’s work.
The new season will pick up as protagonist Iori Kitahara returns to Izu after completing his diving license training in Okinawa, coinciding with the arrival of a letter from his younger sister, Shiori.
The animation will once again be handled by Zero-G, with the studio Liber joining the production team for the new season. Key returning staff members include director, scriptwriter, and sound director Shinji Takamatsu, character designer and chief animation director Hideoki Kusama, and chief animation director Yōichi Ueda. Color key artist Aiko Matsuyama and sound production studio Saber Links will also reprise their roles.
There will be some changes in the production team: Reiji Kasuga will take over as art director from Studio Jack’s Minoru Akiba, while jimao will handle prop design, replacing Hiroshi Ogawa. Naoyuki Katō will take the helm as the photography compositing director, succeeding Hideki Imaizumi, and Shun Tokuda will edit the series, taking over from Masaki Utsunomiya. The music for the new season will be composed by Yukari Hashimoto, known for her work on Mr. Osomatsu and Sarazanmai, replacing Manual of Errors Artists.

Grand Blue Dreaming, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon magazine in April 2014, follows Iori Kitahara as he embarks on a lively college experience filled with diving escapades and humorous interactions with friends. The manga has garnered a loyal fanbase, with Kodansha USA Publishing releasing it digitally in English. The 22nd compiled volume was published on April 5, and the 23rd volume is set to ship on October 7, with the 20th volume from Kodansha USA Publishing scheduled for release on November 19.
The original anime adaptation premiered in July 2018, with episodes streamed worldwide via Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, a live-action film adaptation was released in Japan in August 2020.
