Anticipation Grows for Fall 2024 Anime Series Streaming on Netflix

by Hazel

As the Fall 2024 anime season approaches, excitement is building among fans for the release of several high-profile series, including Dragon Ball Daima and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. However, a recent survey conducted by Filmarks, a prominent Japanese review service akin to IMDb, reveals that one particular title is generating significant buzz among viewers in the United States: Chi. – About the Earth’s Movement—also known as Orb: On the Movements of the Earth in its U.S. release.

Set to premiere on Netflix on October 5, 2024, Orb has flown under the radar for many Western fans, but its impressive creative team positions it as a standout entry in the upcoming season. Directed by Kenichi Shimizu, known for his work on Parasyte: The Maxim, the series features character designs by Shino Masanori, acclaimed for his contributions to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean and Black Lagoon. Animation production is handled by Madhouse, the studio behind some of anime’s most visually stunning works, including Death Note, One-Punch Man, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

Set against the backdrop of 16th-century Europe, Orb navigates the tumultuous intellectual landscape of the time, as scholars confront the Church’s geocentric worldview. Adapted from the seinen manga that ran from 2020 to 2022, the series is expected to explore themes of ideological conflict and the dangers of questioning established institutions. The voice cast includes notable talent such as Katsuyuki Konishi (Jean Kirstein in Attack on Titan), who voices one of the primary scholars challenging the geocentric model, alongside Yuichi Nakamura (Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen) and Saya Hitomi (Nami in One Piece).

Unlike many other anime debuting this season, which tend to focus on action-packed isekai or typical genre tropes, Orb sets itself apart by delving into deeper scientific inquiries. Netflix will kick off the series with a double-length premiere, releasing both Episodes 1 and 2 simultaneously, followed by regular weekly episodes thereafter. As anticipation builds, Orb: On the Movements of the Earth is poised to become one of Fall 2024’s most talked-about anime offerings.
