The highly anticipated anime film Senpai is an Otokonoko has officially been announced, with its premiere scheduled for February 14 in Japan (JST).
An announcement trailer for the film, subtitled Ame Nochi Hare, was released, showcasing a striking visual featuring Saki Aoi alongside Makoto Hanaoka and Ryuji Taiga, both of whom are reflected in her eyes.
This film is based on the Senpai is an Otokonoko TV series, which began airing in Japan on July 4, 2024 (effectively July 5 at 12:55 AM JST). The series is an adaptation of the popular manga by Pomu, published by LINE Digital Frontier. The manga previously topped the 5th Manga We Want to See Animated ranking and was a runner-up in the web category of the 2021 Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishou.
The storyline centers around Saki, a high school student who confesses her feelings to Makoto. When Makoto reveals a secret, Saki remains undeterred in her affection for him. After being turned down, she seeks advice from Ryuji, Makoto’s childhood friend, leading to a love triangle as Ryuji realizes his own feelings for Makoto.
The Senpai is an Otokonoko manga was serialized on Line Manga from 2019 to 2021 and consists of nine tankoubon volumes published by Ichijinsha as of July 2024. Crunchyroll is streaming the ongoing series.
