Kyoto Animation has announced a special event scheduled for September 21, 2024, with further details to be disclosed at 21:00 JST. The renowned studio, celebrated for its stunning animation, recently completed the third season of “Sound! Euphonium” on June 30. While specifics about the upcoming announcement remain undisclosed, a promotional graphic has been released.
In addition to the current buzz, it’s worth noting that Kyoto Animation had previously announced an anime adaptation of “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku” in 2018. However, the status of this project has been uncertain since the tragic arson attack on the studio in July 2019. In July of this year, a commemorative monument honoring the victims of the attack was unveiled at the Historical Park of Green Tea and Uji Town.
Despite the challenges following the attack, Kyoto Animation has continued to produce acclaimed work. The studio’s first major release post-tragedy was the highly successful “Violet Evergarden” movie, which premiered in July 2020. Subsequently, they released “Free! The Final Stroke” in two parts, with Part 1 debuting in September 2021 and Part 2 in April 2022. Additionally, the studio launched a compilation film of “Tsurune’s” first TV anime season, titled “Tsurune: The Movie – The First Shot,” in August 2022, which included new scenes.
Kyoto Animation’s first TV anime project following the attack was “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S,” which concluded nearly three years ago, on September 23, 2021. Between “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid” and “Sound! Euphonium,” the studio also released “Tsurune: The Linking Shot,” a sequel to the original season/movie, airing from January to March 2023.
Founded in 1985 by Hideaki and Yoko Hatta, who continue to serve as president and vice-president respectively, Kyoto Animation has garnered acclaim for its diverse and influential body of work. Besides the aforementioned projects, the studio is well-regarded for other popular titles such as “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,” “Clannad,” “K-On!,” “Nichijou,” “Hyouka,” “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions,” and “A Silent Voice.”
