Kōhei Horikoshi, the creator of the My Hero Academia manga, serves as the general supervisor and original character designer for the film. The story unfolds parallel to the current timeline of the anime series, depicting a dystopian world with the sudden emergence of a giant fortress and a man who bears a resemblance to the former “Symbol of Peace.”

The My Hero Academia franchise has previously released three films: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (July 2018), My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising (December 2019), and My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission (August 2021), which premiered in the U.S. in October 2021 and grossed over $10 million.

The seventh season of the anime premiered on April 6, 2024, beginning with a four-episode special titled My Hero Academia Memories. The main season continued on May 4, 2024, with episode 139. Crunchyroll is streaming both the original Japanese version and the English dub.

The My Hero Academia manga concluded on August 5, 2024. Horikoshi launched the series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2014. Viz Media publishes the manga in English, both digitally and in print, while Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service provides digital English versions. The 41st volume was released in Japan on August 2, 2024, with the final volume scheduled for December 2024.

In celebration of the manga’s decade-long run, Shueisha has announced several commemorative projects, including a final fanbook in January, the first art book in April, and a major art exhibit in summer 2025. Additionally, an advertisement featuring Horikoshi’s English comment appeared in The New York Times, and a global “World Best Hero” popularity poll was launched on August 5, with voting concluding on September 30, 2024, Japan time.
