The highly anticipated film “Fureru” (“Touch”) has released a new trailer in the lead-up to its October 4 premiere in Japan. The trailer offers fresh glimpses into the movie’s plot and features the theme song “Monotone” by the popular music duo YOASOBI.
“Fureru” is the latest creation from the talented team behind beloved anime titles like “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day,” “The Anthem of the Heart,” and “Her Blue Sky.” Directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai, with a script by Mari Okada and character designs by Masayoshi Tanaka, the film is animated by Studio CloverWorks. The main cast includes Ren Nagase as Aki Onoda, Ryota Bando as Ryo Sobue, Kentaro Maeda as Yuta Inohara, Haruka Shiraishi as Juri Kamozawa, Manaka Iwami as Nana Asakawa, Sarutoki Minagawa as Wakita, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Kohei Shimada.
The production is a collaboration between Aniplex and STORY inc., with distribution handled by Toho and Aniplex. The movie reunites the trio of Nagai, Okada, and Tanaka, known for their emotionally impactful trilogy (“Anohana,” “Her Blue Sky,” and “The Anthem of the Heart”). Last week, “Fureru” also announced the addition of nine new cast members, all of whom have voiced characters in the trio’s previous works. These include:
Ai Kayano (Menma from “Anohana”)
Takahiro Sakurai (Yukiatsu from “Anohana”)
Mutsumi Tamura (young Jintan from “Anohana”)
Asami Seto (young Yukiatsu from “Anohana”)
Aki Toyosaki (young Poppo from “Anohana”)
Mitsuru Ogata (Atsushi Yadomi from “Anohana”)
Shion Wakayama (Aoi Aioi from “Her Blue Sky”)
Inori Minase (Jun Naruse from “The Anthem of the Heart”)
Koki Uchiyama (Takumi Sakagami from “The Anthem of the Heart”)
“Fureru” marks Nagai’s first major directorial project since “A Certain Scientific Railgun T” in 2020. In addition to his work on the “Anohana” trilogy and the “Railgun” series, Nagai is also known for directing “Honey and Clover II” and “Toradora.” Masayoshi Tanaka, acclaimed for his work on “Your Name,” “Weathering With You,” and “Suzume,” collaborates once again with Mari Okada, who has written for series like “Black Butler” and films such as “Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms.” Okada’s most recent film, “Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Koujou,” premiered in Japan last year and is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
Studio CloverWorks, responsible for the animation of “Fureru,” has a portfolio of notable works, including the “Rascal Does Not Dream” series, “My Dress-Up Darling,” “Wonder Egg Priority,” and “Spy x Family.”
With a stellar creative team and a captivating new trailer, “Fureru” is set to be one of the standout releases of the year, blending heartfelt storytelling with stunning animation. Fans are eagerly counting down the days until its October 4 debut.
