“Tono to Inu” Anime Announces October 10 Premiere with Charming New Trailer

The beloved manga Tono to Inu (Lord and Dog), penned by Rie Nishida, is set to make its anime debut on October 10. Fans of the heartwarming tale about a retired samurai and his mischievous canine companion were treated to an endearing new trailer, which also unveiled the premiere date for the first episode. Notably, this anime adaptation will feature four distinct versions, each to be broadcast on consecutive days following the initial release.

The series will kick off with the “WanWan!” version, voiced by the renowned Akio Otsuka (best known as Batou in Ghost in The Shell), on October 10. The “PotePote!” version, featuring Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki Sakata in Gintama), will air on October 11. On October 12, viewers can enjoy the “KonKon!” version, with Shunsuke Takeuchi (Alexander Yamato in KING OF PRISM) lending his voice to the titular Lord. Finally, the “MofuMofu!” version, voiced by Masaki Aiba (a member of the popular idol group Arashi), will be broadcast on October 13.

The anime is helmed by Haruki Kasugamori at OLM × Live2D Creative Studio, with Shun Miyazaki providing the music and Noriyoshi Konuma serving as the sound director.

Lord and Dog first appeared as a four-chapter manga on Flex Comix’s web platform, Comic Polaris, in March 2021. Due to its favorable reception, it began full serialization in October 2021. To date, three volumes have been released in Japan, with the fourth volume scheduled to hit shelves on October 15, 2024.

Set during Japan’s Warring States period, the story follows Tono, a once-feared god of war who has now fallen into poverty. Living in a humble tenement house, Tono encounters a dog that quickly becomes his unruly companion. Despite Tono’s once-mighty status, he finds himself at the mercy of this carefree and disobedient dog.
