Fans of the iconic Dragon Ball franchise have reason to celebrate as the highly anticipated new series, Dragon Ball Daima, has officially announced its premiere date. As part of the 40th anniversary celebration of Akira Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball manga, this new installment promises fresh adventures and a novel transformation for Goku.
According to Mantan Web, Fuji Television will launch Dragon Ball Daima in Japan on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:40 PM JST. This debut will kick off a new late-night programming block. The series’ first episode will feature an extended runtime, adding an extra ten minutes to the usual episode length. However, details regarding the international release and potential streaming platforms for the series remain unconfirmed.
The new anime, developed by Toei Animation, continues the legacy of Toriyama’s beloved universe. Toriyama, who passed away earlier, was instrumental in crafting the original storyline and character designs for Dragon Ball Daima. The series is being directed by Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki, with Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru adapting Toriyama’s designs for animation. Yuuko Kakihara is overseeing and writing the scripts for the show.
Returning to her iconic role, Masako Nozawa will once again voice Goku. As of now, she is the only confirmed member of the voice cast, with information about an English dub yet to be announced. Toriyama had previously hinted at the series’ premise before his passing:
“Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Power Pole to fight, something not seen in a long time.”
With the premiere date set, Dragon Ball enthusiasts can mark their calendars for October 11, 2024, and look forward to the next chapter in the Dragon Ball saga.
