Negi Haruba, the original manga creator, personally crafted the story concept and oversees all aspects of the anime, which revolves around Fūtarō and the quintuplets’ honeymoon trip.
“The Quintessential Quintuplets” manga debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2017 and concluded in February 2020, amassing over 20 million copies in circulation. Haruba also announced a new light novel in April, exploring aspects of the quintuplets’ daily lives not covered in the manga, with Hajime Asano as the author.
The anime’s first season aired in January 2019, followed by the second season from January to March 2021. “The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie,” serving as the series finale, premiered in Japan in May 2022, achieving significant success with 1.7 million tickets sold, totaling approximately 2.24 billion yen (about US$14 million). Crunchyroll later screened the film in the United States and Canada.
Additionally, “The Quintessential Quintuplets ∽” anime special premiered in Japanese theaters in July 2023, subsequently airing on September 2 and 3.
