Tokyo Revengers, a popular yankī shōnen anime series, has just unveiled plans for a new anime sequel and a mini spin-off series. Celebrating its upcoming anniversary in 2025, the series will introduce a chibi gag series titled “Fairy Tale Revengers.” This spin-off will reimagine classic fairy tales using Tokyo Revengers characters, starting with the Japanese folktale Momotarō.
Based on Ken Wakui’s manga, initially serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since March 2017, Tokyo Revengers is produced by LIDENFILMS, known for their work on “Call of the Night” and the 2023 reboot of “Rurouni Kenshin.”
The storyline follows Takemichi Hanagaki, who learns of his middle school girlfriend Hinata Tachibana’s death at the hands of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Through a mysterious time leap, Takemichi returns to his middle school days, determined to alter the tragic course of events.
Having aired three seasons so far, the series began with its first season in 2021 featuring 24 episodes. Season 2, titled “Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown Arc,” aired in Winter 2023 with 13 episodes, followed by Season 3, “Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku Arc,” in Fall 2023, also with 13 episodes.
The newly announced fourth season is set to delve into the Bonten Arc of the manga, which spans 20 chapters. There’s speculation that this arc might also be adapted into a movie due to its brevity, while the sequel covers subsequent storylines.
