Peter Gadiot, known for his roles in “Yellowjackets” and “Queen of the South,” has been confirmed to join the cast of Tomorrow Studios and Netflix’s highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of “One Piece,” based on the iconic anime and manga series.
The casting announcement was made by Gadiot himself in a video presentation at Shueisha’s Great Pirate Festival on Monday, generating excitement among fans of the beloved franchise.
Created by Eiichiro Oda, “One Piece” has captivated audiences worldwide since its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump magazine in 1997. With over 490 million copies in circulation across 58 countries and regions, it holds the esteemed title of the best-selling manga series in history.
The series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they traverse a fantastical world brimming with endless oceans and exotic islands in pursuit of the legendary treasure known as “One Piece,” once belonging to the former King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger.
In the live-action adaptation, Gadiot is set to portray Shanks, the enigmatic and revered captain of the red-haired pirates. His addition to the cast adds further anticipation to the project, joining a talented ensemble that includes previously announced cast members such as Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, and Emily Rudd as Nami.
The series boasts an impressive lineup of co-showrunners and executive producers, with Matt Owens and Steven Maeda at the helm. Their stewardship of the adaptation promises to honor the rich legacy of the “One Piece” franchise, which spans over 1,000 episodes of anime and manga chapters.
As production progresses on this ambitious project, fans eagerly await further updates and glimpses into the live-action rendition of their beloved tale of high-seas adventure and camaraderie.
