Crunchyroll has unveiled a second official trailer for Nyaight of the Living Cat, an upcoming anime series set to stream worldwide in July 2025. This unique horror-comedy follows a bizarre global catastrophe, where a mysterious virus turns humans into cats upon physical contact. As the “Nyandemic” spreads, people must resist their natural urge to pet these adorable yet dangerous felines.
The series is executive-directed by renowned filmmaker Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition, 13 Assassins) and directed by Tomohiro Kamitani, known for his work on A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Magical Index. The screenplay is written by Shingo Irie (Golden Kamuy, Orb: On the Movements of the Earth). The anime is adapted from the popular manga Night of the Living Cat, written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots.
Set in the near future, Nyaight of the Living Cat depicts a world where humans struggle to avoid contact with their feline counterparts. With cats actively rubbing against people and triggering mutations, humanity faces a growing crisis. The trailer teases a mix of comedy and suspense, with characters desperately trying to resist the temptation of petting fluffy, irresistible cats.
The Japanese voice cast includes Masaaki Mizunaka, Reina Ueda, Reiji Kawashima, Yu Serizawa, Subaru Kimura, and Yoshiki Nakajima. Fans have already praised the trailer for its humor and engaging premise, building anticipation for the series’ release.
Crunchyroll will stream Nyaight of the Living Cat in the U.S. and other regions starting in July 2025. Stay alert—no matter how cute they look, the cats are taking over!
