To celebrate the birthday of Giyu Tomioka, a key character from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Ufotable has released a special 2025 illustration. The artwork, which was unveiled on the official Demon Slayer website, showcases the Water Hashira in a chibi style, complete with elements that highlight his character.
This illustration is part of a series of birthday tributes released by Ufotable. In January, another illustration featuring Genya Shinazugawa was also unveiled, following the tradition of honoring the series’ beloved characters.
Background on Demon Slayer and Ufotable’s Success
Koyoharu Gotoge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga series, which ran from February 2016 to May 2020 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, quickly became a cultural phenomenon. The series concluded with 23 volumes, leaving a lasting impact on the anime and manga industries.
The anime adaptation, also by Ufotable, debuted in 2019 with a 26-episode first season. Following the success of the anime, the 2020 film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, not only became a massive hit but also played a pivotal role in sparking the global anime movie boom. The film was later re-edited and integrated into the 18-episode second season, which aired from October 2021 to February 2022.
In 2023, the third season, comprising 11 episodes, captivated audiences, and the fourth season continued the momentum from May to June 2024, laying the foundation for the series’ grand finale.
As the anime continues to expand its reach, these birthday illustrations serve as a reminder of the lasting popularity and cultural significance of Demon Slayer.
