Story Overview
The anime is based on the light novel series by Kōki Fuyutsuki, which was first serialized as a web novel in July 2020 and concluded in January 2022. The story centers on Philia, a young woman from a family of saints, who is set to marry Julius, the second prince of her kingdom. However, Julius calls off the engagement, stating that Philia’s perfection makes her unappealing. In a further blow, Philia is sent to a neighboring country in exchange for gold and resources.
Despite initial fears of mistreatment, Philia finds a warm reception in her new home, where she uses her saintly abilities to protect the town by erecting barriers against monsters and curing epidemics. However, while she thrives in her new life, her homeland faces imminent destruction.
Manga Adaptation
Alongside the light novel series, The Too-Perfect Saint also has a manga adaptation by Mago Ayakita, which began serialization on the Overlap Comic Gardo platform in November 2021. The fifth volume of the manga was published in June 2025.
International Release
Seven Seas has licensed both the light novel and its manga adaptation in English. The publisher describes the series as an empowering story of resilience and self-discovery, featuring a protagonist who refuses to let her rejection define her future.
As fans eagerly await the anime’s debut this April, The Too-Perfect Saint continues to gain momentum in both the anime and literary communities.
